The first version of the HKIAC Domestic Arbitration Rules came into effect on 1 April 1993.

The HKIAC Domestic Arbitration Rules (1993) were drafted at a time when the HK Arbitration Ordinance was divided into two distinct regimes, the international regime and the domestic, or non-international, regime. The international regime incorporated the UNCITRAL Model Law while the domestic regime was based on the English Arbitration Acts of 1950, 1975 and 1979 and also included some provisions based on Singapore’s International Arbitration Act (Cap 143A) and the English Arbitration Act 1996.
